About the Trust

Jayanti Memorial Trust

Helping cardiac patients through out Nepal.

Princess JayantiThe Trust was established in memory of HRH Princess Jayanti Shah, the daughter of HRH the Late Prince Basundhara Bir Bikram Shah and HRH Princess Helen Shah and the granddaughter of His Late Majesty King Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah Dev.

Princess Jayanti established the Nepal Cancer Relief Society in September 1982. Her efforts led to the institution of a tax on cigarettes, which helped in funding the then Kingdom's first cancer hospital. Though the Princess devoted much of her life to cancer relief, from an early age she was aware of the pain and suffering caused by cardiac illness. Many members of her own family suffered from coronary heart disease. Consequently, it was her lifelong ambition to establish a foundation to make cardiac care available to the Nepalese people.

This Trust has been established as a legacy and tribute to her wishes. We live in a nation where few can afford basic medical care, let alone the expense of cardiac care. Yet, the incidents of coronary heart disease are on the rise. It is the Trust's mission to provide accessible cardiac care and promote prevention. With financial support from the late Princess Jayanti's interests in FISHTAIL LODGE, the Trust finances cardiac treatment at Bir Hospital, Shahid Ganga Lal Heart Centre and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
